Originating in 19th-century Britain, Staffordshire ceramic poodles are decorative earthenware figures produced by potteries in Staffordshire. They became popular mantelpiece ornaments during the Victorian era, recognised for their expressive hand-painted details and distinctive textured fleece.

These figures were press-moulded from earthenware clay, with the characteristic curly coat created using applied shredded clay or coleslaw ceramic techniques. They were then lead-glazed, fired, and finished with hand-painted enamels for facial features and collar details.
