Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A demilune card table is a semicircular piece of furniture produced during the 19th century that functions both as a wall-mounted console and as a surface for games when the top is unfolded. The name derives from the French word for half-moon, describing its rounded silhouette.

These tables were typically constructed using solid mahogany frames or secondary timbers faced with dark mahogany veneers. Standard period features include hand-cut mortise-and-tenon joinery, brass hinges, tapered fluted legs, and a swing-leg mechanism to support the extended table top.

Authentic 19th-century examples display natural patination, subtle timber movement, and original hand-cut joinery. The underside of the frame usually features unpolished wood with hand-planed or pit-sawn tool marks, alongside original brass fold-over hinges.

Positioned against an entryway wall or behind a sofa, a demilune table offers a compact footprint suitable for table lamps and decorative ceramics. Its fold-over top also allows it to transition into a small occasional table for entertaining.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish. Position the item away from radiators and direct sunlight to protect the wood veneer from drying out or discolouring.
