This is an outstanding Victorian corner cupboard made entirely from solid pine, dating to the late 19th century. At first glance it can appear deceptively newer, but closer inspection reveals all the hallmarks of genuine Victorian craftsmanship.
The original hinges, the aged brass handle, the earlier fixing hole, and the construction visible inside the cupboard all confirm its age. The astral glazed door is particularly telling — the quality of the glazing bars and the way the glass is set show skilled hand workmanship that simply isn’t replicated in later reproductions.
The piece was stripped back to bare pine during the late 20th century, most likely in the 1980s or 1990s, when painted furniture was routinely stripped. It now carries a natural wax finish which has gently worn over time. Inside, the cupboard features beautifully shaped internal corner shelves with decorative cut edges, adding visual interest as well as practicality. The cupboard is solid throughout, the door opens and closes properly, and the structure feels reassuringly sturdy.
The brass handle shows natural oxidisation, and there are small indentations and signs of wear along the fluted outer edges — exactly what you would expect from a piece that has been used and lived with for over a century. These marks add character rather than detract, and overall the condition is very good.
