Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Patented in the late 19th century by Alexis Shiels and developed by French engineer Andre Blondel, Holophane glass was designed to maximize illumination through molded glass prisms. These light fixtures became widespread during the Edwardian era for public buildings, industrial settings, and residential interiors due to their efficient light diffusion.

Pendant lights from this era commonly feature heavy molded borosilicate or sodalime glass shades with calculated optical prisms. The supporting hardware usually consists of solid brass galleries, threaded glass retainers, and linked brass suspension chains.

Authentic pieces often display stamped marks on the outer rim or brass gallery, such as Holophane or patent numbers. Original glass shades exhibit precise prismatic ribbing designed for light refraction, heavy glass density, and minor age-related wear around the rim where it meets the gallery screw fittings.

Period pendant lights work well hung singularly in hallways and entrance foyers, or arranged in rows of two or three over kitchen islands and dining tables. The clean geometric lines of prismatic glass allow these fixtures to complement both contemporary industrial schemes and traditional period settings.

Clean the glass shade by dusting with a soft brush to remove dust from the fluted grooves, or wash gently in warm water with mild detergent. Brass fittings should be dusted with a microfibre cloth; avoid harsh chemical cleaners to preserve any natural patina or protective lacquers, and ensure all electrical components are tested by a qualified electrician.
