Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in ancient Egypt and refined in 18th-century France, the chaise longue became a staple of Victorian drawing rooms during the 19th century. Designed for day-time lounging, these reclining seats provided social seating while maintaining formal decorum, often featuring asymmetrical backs, ornate timber carving, and deep buttoning.

Mid-Victorian chaise longues were predominantly crafted with dense hardwood frames such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood. Internal construction utilised hand-tied steel coil springs, jute webbing, and horsehair padding, upholstered in fine fabrics like velvet, damask, or brocade.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved timber detailing, crisp scrollwork, and natural grain variations typical of walnut. Look for evidence of traditional joinery, brass castors attached to cabriole or turned legs, and original webbed framing on the underside.

A Victorian chaise longue serves as a striking focal point in a master bedroom, bay window, or formal living space. Neutral-coloured upholstery allows the piece to seamlessly bridge traditional architecture with contemporary textiles and minimalist decor.

Keep the timber frame away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage and fading. Clean the wood using a beeswax polish applied with a soft cloth, and clean upholstery with a gentle brush vacuum attachment to prevent dust accumulation.
