Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pier display cabinet is a tall, narrow furniture piece originally designed to fit on the wall section between two windows, known as a pier. During the nineteenth century, cabinetmakers produced these pieces incorporating Chinoiserie design elements, drawing inspiration from East Asian artistic motifs and fretwork patterns.

High-grade mahogany, secondary timber linings, hand-cut glass, and woven interior fabrics form the primary construction materials. Traditional joinery techniques include hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-carved blind fretwork, intricate astragal door glazing, and framed lower stretchers.

Authentic period furniture exhibits evidence of hand-planing, original drawer construction with fine dovetails, and stamped maker signatures or brass plaques from historic workshops. Glazed panels often show minor visual distortions, uneven thickness, or air bubbles consistent with period glass production.

Positioning the cabinet against a focal wall or within a dining room creates an elegant backdrop for displaying ceramics, glassware, or curated books. Combining rich mahogany tones with neutral modern paint palettes highlights the intricate fretwork and geometric glazing.

Position the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and areas with fluctuating humidity to prevent the timber from warping or splitting. Dust the carved surfaces with a dry microfibre cloth, apply a high-grade beeswax polish periodically, and clean the glass panels with specialised non-ammonia cleaners.
