A fabulous Anglo Indian teak secretaire campaign chest, of lovely colour and patination, in two sections with flush brass skeleton handles, iron carrying handles to the sides, screw off turned legs and a secretaire drawer which pulls out and folds down using two buttons to reveal various drawers, pigeon holes and a writing surface.
This chest was probably made in a British workshop in India and would have originally have had packing cases which each section would have been slid into to allow it to be safely transported to wherever it was required.
The secretaire drawer has a shield shaped brass escutcheon plate with indistinct engraved initials, possibly E.L.R.
Partial paper label to back possibly reading Lewthwaite, 11 Dilke Street, Swan Walk, Chelsea.
Condition:
In good condition, with a good amount of wear and patination from use. One knob missing in the secretaire drawer. Carrying handles are probably not original but are very old. Secretaire lock not original (r
...eplaced with a Bramah lock). Ready to be used and enjoyed.
