We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sheffield plate was developed in England during the mid-eighteenth century by fusing a layer of sterling silver onto a copper ingot before rolling it into sheets. By the Victorian era, makers produced elaborate table hollowware using Rococo Revival motifs, offering the appearance of solid silver at a more accessible price point.

Mid-nineteenth-century trays were constructed from fused copper and silver sheets or electroplated base metals. Decorative borders and feet were often cast or die-struck in nickel silver or white metal before being soldered into place and polished.

Authentic pieces from this period typically feature distinct makers marks, stamped symbols, or firm names near the border or on the underside. Look for hand-chased surface decoration, period-appropriate monograms, and slight copper exposure along high-wear edges, known as bleeding.

A silver tray serves as an ideal base for grouping decanters on a sideboard, organising perfume bottles on a dressing table, or displaying decorative objects on a coffee table. Its reflective metal surface creates visual contrast when paired with contemporary stone, timber, or linen textures.

Wash silver-plated items gently in warm water with mild liquid soap and dry immediately with a soft cloth. Apply a non-abrasive silver polish sparingly to remove tarnish, avoiding heavy pressure on raised details to prevent premature wear to the silver layer.
