Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian silver, produced between 1714 and 1830, is recognized for its refined proportions, classical influence, and high standards of craftsmanship. Silversmiths of this era often utilized hand-hammering techniques, producing pieces with distinct weight and elegant, functional silhouettes.

authentic Georgian ladles were crafted primarily from sterling silver, defined as 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Handles were occasionally turned from turned wood or whalebone, though full sterling construction remained standard for formal dining service.

Authentic British sterling silver items feature a series of stamped hallmarks indicating metal purity, the assay office location, the specific year letter, and a registered makers mark. For 1782 London silver, one looks for the lion passant, a leopards head crown, the date letter g, and the makers specific initials.

Period silverware can be incorporated into contemporary interiors by displaying items on dining sideboards, mounting them within framed shadow boxes, or utilizing them during formal table settings alongside modern tableware.

Sterling silver should be cleaned regularly with a soft cloth and specialized non-abrasive silver polish to prevent oxidisation. Items ought to be stored in felt or anti-tarnish fabric sleeves away from direct humidity and harsh chemicals.
