A highly impressive and visually striking Indo-Persian flintlock musket of the late 18th century, lavishly decorated throughout with extensive mother-of-pearl and brass inlay, and fitted with a genuine East India Company flintlock. (circa 1785–1810). The musket has a long hardwood stock is profusely inlaid over almost its entire surface with finely cut mother-of-pearl tesserae arranged in repeating geometric panels, framed by engraved and pierced brass stripwork. The decoration continues uninterrupted from the forestock through the grip and into the strongly recurved butt, a form characteristic of high-status Indo-Persian and North Indian firearms. The butt is further enriched with contrasting dark panels inset with pearl rosettes and linear brass borders.The musket retains its long barrel, measuring 41.5 inches, secured by broad brass bands typical of Indian construction, and showing an attractive, even aged patina.
