Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, mahogany was the preferred timber for high-quality case furniture due to its rich tone, structural stability, and fine grain. These chests typically featured hand-dovetailed drawer construction, brass hardware, and varied drawer configurations for bedroom storage.

Cabinetmakers utilised solid mahogany and rich mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods like pine or oak for drawer linings. Construction involved hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise-and-tenon framing, and cast brass handles or keyhole escutcheons.

Look for slightly uneven, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer sides, historical wear around the keyholes, and hand-planed timber surfaces on the rear panels. Original brass hardware often shows subtle casting irregularities and age-related patination or oxidisation.

Position the chest as a focal storage piece in a hallway or bedroom, balancing the dark timber with neutral wall paint and contemporary artwork or minimalist ceramics placed on top.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft cloth, rubbing along the direction of the wood grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and bright sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer damage.
