Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Britannia standard silver flatware refers to silver crafted at a higher purity of 95.8% silver, which was mandatory in Great Britain between 1697 and 1720, and continued into the George I period. Flatware from this period typically features hand-forged construction, such as three tines and turned-up stem ends.

In the early 18th century, silver forks were individually hand-forged from silver ingots by silversmiths using hammers and anvils. The three tines were cut and shaped manually, resulting in subtle variations in weight and dimensions.

Authentic pieces carry British hallmarks including the Britannia mark (a seated figure of Britannia), the lions head erased, a date letter, and a makers mark. Examination of wear patterns, period heraldic engraving, and hand-forged construction details helps verify early 18th-century origin.

Antique silver cutlery can be incorporated into formal table settings alongside modern porcelain and glassware for a curated dining aesthetic. Alternatively, individual flatware pieces can be displayed inside shadow boxes or arranged on a dining room sideboard.

Clean silver flatware using warm water and a mild dishwashing liquid, followed by gentle drying with a soft cotton cloth. Apply a specialist non-abrasive silver polish sparingly when tarnish appears, avoiding harsh chemicals or automated dishwashers.
