Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian silver mustard pot is a small tabletop vessel crafted during the Georgian era (17141837) to serve wet mustard. These containers frequently featured hinged lids, decorative borders, spoon notches, and glass liners to protect the interior metal from corrosive ingredients.

Most Georgian mustard pots were crafted from solid sterling silver or Sheffield plate. Many examples incorporated a removable blue glass liner to prevent acid from corroding or tarnishing the interior silver surface.

Authentic British pieces bear official hallmark stamps including a monarch profile, a sterling silver lion passant, a town mark, a date letter, and a registered makers mark. Prominent makers such as Matthew Boulton stamped distinct marks registered with the Birmingham or London assay offices.

Antique silver mustard pots can be displayed on dining room sideboards, kitchen dressers, or open shelving units. They can also serve as decorative desktop containers for small items or as functional salt and spice servers during formal meals.

Silver items should be polished gently using a soft microfibre cloth and dedicated silver polish to remove oxidisation without wearing down silver hallmarks. Any glass liners should be washed separately in lukewarm soapy water.
