Unusual and beautiful early 19th century French gilt mirror.
It dates from around 1800 and has its original mercury glass. Mercury glass was not made after 1840 and gives a sparkle and reflection like no other. It was the glass used in the Palace of Versailles.
It has its incredible real gilt (gold leaf) on gesso frame with a huge amount of lovely ornate detail inluding its spectacular very large crest.
This mirror would be stunning as an overmantel or in a hall.
The gilt and glass are superb. It is in immaculate condition and has its original panelled backboards.
