A fine quality late 18th/early 19th century TUNBRIDGE SEWING & WRITING BOX in remarkably good original condition. Veneered primarily in finest burr walnut, with a pen-and-ink border and a large oval picture of a scene with three �classical� ladies in a gilded border within the lid, this box retains virtually all of its original fittings.The lid opens to reveal firstly, the writing box, with its pair of original ink bottles , complete with Old Sheffield Plate lids, and the writing surface which amazingly retains its original baize writing surface. Underneath is a vacant compartment (for letters; notepaper etc) whilst further below is the fitted sewing drawer.
