Gents ‘The Turret’ large trench watch, Lawrence & Mayo, London.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement which is signed “The Turret”. Lawrence & Mayo, the original retailer, bought in movements from various watch movement manufacturers, cased them and sold them under “The Turret” name. Lawrence & Mayo were in business in London from the mid-1880s, and expanded into India in the early part of the twentieth century.

The watch is a good size at 41mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is nickel and it is in good condition, just a little unevenness to the back but not too serious at all.

There are two holes to the side of the case, one either side of the winding crown, and these have been subsequently filled with copper. It would appear that the watch was converted at some point from a wrist watch to one that could be worn as around the neck. Some time later, it has been converted back to a wrist watch as it has copper lugs.

The watch glass has very minor marking, all very acceptable.

The signed dial looks good to the naked eye… there is a little damage by number 11 but you have to look very closely to see it.

The watch has a vintage leather strap, and it all comes in a new presentation box.
