Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tea caddies emerged in Europe during the seventeenth century as specialised, lockable containers designed to securely store imported tea leaves, which were highly valuable commodities. By the Edwardian period, silver caddies were produced in diverse shapes, often serving as functional table centrepieces during tea service.

British silver tea caddies were crafted from sterling silver, defined as 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. silversmiths shaped the body using raised sheet metal or cast sections, hand-soldering joints and adding cast finials, repousse borders, or engraved ornamentation.

Authentic British silver items feature a complete set of hallmarks stamped into the metal casing. These include the lion passant for sterling purity, a city assay mark such as the leopards head for London, a specific date letter denoting the year of manufacture, and a registered makers mark.

A silver tea caddy can be styled atop a sideboard, tray, or vanity unit alongside glassware and ceramics. Its reflective surface creates contrast when paired with natural timber furniture or matte stone surfaces.

Maintain silver by dusting with a non-abrasive microfibre cloth and applying specialized silver polish sparingly to prevent oxidisation build-up. Avoid using harsh chemical dipping solutions or abrasive pads that can wear down delicate surface details and stamped hallmarks.
