Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the British Regency period (18111820), furniture makers moved away from rigid rectangular shapes towards softer curves and neoclassically inspired profiles. The convex or bow-front design was developed to maximize drawer capacity while creating a lighter, more elegant visual presence in formal rooms.

Regency chests were primarily constructed using solid hardwoods such as mahogany or pine for the internal carcass, often featuring hand-cut dovetail drawer joints. Ebonised finishes were achieved by applying dark stains, lacquers, or spirit lampblack to dense timber, paired with solid brass handles and backplates.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of traditional craftsmanship, such as hand-sawn back panels, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, and natural age-related wear around keyholes and handles. The ebonised surface typically shows subtle wear where the natural underlying timber shows through at high-touch edges.

An ebonised chest serves as a strong visual anchor when placed against light or neutral walls, creating a crisp monochromatic contrast. It can be paired with contemporary artwork, natural linen textiles, or brass accents to balance historic craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax or microcrystalline wax once or twice a year. Avoid silicone-based polishes, excessive moisture, and placement near direct heat sources or windows to prevent timber movement and finish degradation.
