Antique Early Metalware 19thc Brass English Toddy Kettle Made By James Clews. C1880-90

£125    $171    €144
A very good example of these collectable kettles....it would have been used to bring hot water to the table for tea and very often to top up the hot toddy, hence the name toddy kettle....this one has a fine provenance, being made by a top quality maker, James Clews who was based in Birmingham and was in business with his sons from 1835 to 1948. This kettle is stamped with his makers mark JC B and is beautifully made with a turned amber coloured handle, swan neck spout and attractive shaped handle supports ....the lid has an impressive turned finial and is raised with a ''ripple'' effect....the main body is cleverly joined in two parts by a seam....a sign of it being earlier made....and it is finished off with four finely turned ''bun'' feet...just very good quality and in excellent condition with no major dents or repairs.

English. C1880-90.
