This is a hefty and magnificent early twentieth century cast iron fireplace fender with strong Art Nouveau influence and a wonderfully imposing presence. Its size and weight immediately set it apart from the more common lightweight fenders, making it both practical and visually impressive. The original black finish survives across most of the surface and has worn naturally over time to reveal areas of bare metal along with touches of surface rust.
