Japanese Meiji (early 20thC) bronze sculptures, cockerel & hen. Exquisitely modelled and crafted with finely detailed figurines. Cockerel: ca. 19.5cm high x 12.5cm wide x 7cm deep, weight 772g; Hen: 12cm high x 9cm wide x 6cm deep, weight 238g.
 
Excellent condition and patina.
 
Representing fidelity and punctuality, the Rooster is the tenth in the 12-year cycle of Japanese (Chinese) zodiac signs. In Japanese culture, the Rooster carries a symbolic significance with generally auspicious connotations. For ancestors, rooster crowing was a notable sign as it awakens people and ends darkness.
