Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tilt top tripod table is a compact surface featuring a three-legged pedestal base and a hinged circular top that flips vertically for storage when not in use. Popularised in 18th-century Britain, these tables were primarily used for serving tea or wine in formal receiving rooms.

These tables were typically built using solid hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut for the legs and central column, while the top surface was decorated with burr veneer cut from tree growths displaying intricate grain patterns. Hinges and catch mechanisms were formed from cast brass or iron.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut joinery on the catch block, original metal tilt mechanisms, and hand-turned detailing on the central pedestal. Genuine antique tables often exhibit irregular underside carving, hand-planed surfaces, and natural timber oxidisation on the tripod base.

Place the table alongside an armchair or in a room corner to display decorative ceramics, books, or a table lamp. The table top can also be tilted vertically against a wall to showcase the natural figure of the burr grain when additional floor space is required.

Dust the surface regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically to protect the timber finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent veneer lifting or surface warping.
