Description

A fine first period Worcester porcelain cream boat of "dolphin ewer" form with large scallop moulding to the body and very delicate moulded detail of small scallop shells and leaves around the foot and scrolls and acanthus leaves around the rim. The handle is carefully modelled and decorated as a lamprey. The jug is boldly decorated in bright enamels, iron red and grey-purple to the sides, and sulphur yellow with black striations to the shell under the spout. Fresh green, puce, red and purple-black decorate the details around the rim and foot, and, rather incongruously, a sky blue floral sprig sits inside the spout. c.1765-1768.

It measures 8.2cm (3 1/4") high, 8.9cm (3 1/2") long and 4.7cm (1 7/8") wide.

In excellent condition with no damage, repair or restoration. There is a short firing line from the rim indent behind the spout on the first side which was decorated over as part of manufacture. Very minor handling wear, just very slightly to the purple on the sides.
