We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Curtain tie backs from the 18th century are functional decorative fittings mounted adjacent to window frames to hold heavy drapery aside. Wealthier Georgian households utilized enamel tie backs decorated with hand-painted portrait miniatures or botanical scenes to display craftsmanship and status.

These pieces typically consist of vitreous enamel painted onto copper bases, mounted within cast gilt-brass, copper, or gilt-bronze frames. The enamel surfaces were fired at high temperatures to fuse the pigments onto the metal substrate.

Authentic period pieces display hand-painted detailing with subtle variations between pairs, period-appropriate portrait attire, and slight surface irregularities in the enamel. The metal mounts often show hand-chased beaded borders and natural oxidisation on the reverse side.

Mount these decorative fittings alongside neutral silk or heavy linen curtains in a period or contemporary setting. The detailed enamel portraits act as subtle jewelry for window treatments, adding historical narrative without overwhelming the space.

Clean enamel surfaces gently using a dry, soft microfiber cloth to remove dust. Avoid chemical solvents, abrasive polish, or immersion in water, as moisture can compromise the gilding and penetrate hairline cracks in the enamel surface.
