Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Manufactured during the Victorian era, these pieces feature Asian-inspired Chinoiserie motifs, combining transfer-printed outlines with hand-enamelled details in cobalt blue, iron red, and pink hues.

Victorian stoneware was crafted from refined clay combined with ground flint or stone, creating a durable body fired at high temperatures before applying underglaze transfer prints and overglaze hand embellishments.

Authentic examples typically feature a makers printed or impressed mark on the reverse side, often incorporating the pattern name Penang alongside distinct octagonal or moulded rim profiles characteristic of 1850s Staffordshire production.

Displaying decorative stoneware on a plate stand atop a sideboard or grouping multiple pieces as a gallery wall arrangement adds historic texture and colour contrast to modern dining rooms and living areas.

Hand wash gently using mild dish detergent and lukewarm water, avoiding abrasive chemicals or dishwashers to protect overglaze gilding and enamelled detail from degradation.
