Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian metal footbath is a nineteenth-century household vessel designed for personal bathing, typically constructed from tinplate or sheet iron. These portable basins were frequently painted or decorated using techniques like scumbling to mimic natural wood grain or marble finishes.

Nineteenth-century footbaths were commonly manufactured from sheet iron, zinc, or tinplate, often featuring a painted or enamelled interior. The exterior was frequently finished with hand-applied paint, graining, or scumbling to withstand humidity and mimic luxury materials.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display rolled metal edges, hand-riveted or soldered handles, and genuine surface wear where the underlying metal shows through the paint layers. The scumbled paintwork typically exhibits hand-brushed wood grain patterns rather than modern uniform printing.

An antique footbath can be repurposed as a decorative fireside log container, an architectural indoor planter, or an entryway storage vessel for umbrellas. Its rich texture complements rustic, traditional, and eclectic interior schemes.

Clean painted metalware using a soft, dry cloth to remove dust without disturbing the fragile painted surface. Avoid applying abrasive chemical polish, water immersion, or harsh detergents that could strip the original scumbled finish.
