A particularly fine and beautiful quality mid-19th century Mother-of-Pearl SEWING BOX, in superb original condition. The box is veneered with large sections of mother-of-pearl, engraved to the lid with flowers and leaves. This opens to reveal firstly, a lift-out tray of implements and tools, and secondly, a further selection of original items below.These include: MOP needle case; MOP pin cusion; solid MOP winders; dividers; a charming hinged ruler; two pairs of scissors; silver propelling pencial (signed Samson Mordan); stiletto; bodkin; penknife and a thimble, which is unmarked but heavy and probably gold. One pair of scissors is marked “Leuchars” which partlfy accounts for the superb quality of both box and its fittings. 6 x 3.25ins.
