Description

A beautiful antique twenty two piece Müller Volkstedt (MV Co.) 'Eglantine' pattern decorated dinner service, circa 1920 in date.

The service is decorated with eglantine flower garlands in pastal tones with gilt highlights.

The set comprises:

1x Large meat platter

2x vegetable tureens and lids

2x Vegitable platters (large and meduim size)

1x Soup Turreen & cover

1x Large salad platter

6x Soup / Pasta plates

6x Dinner plates

History of Müller Volkstedt (MV Co.)

Founding and Early Years: The business was founded by Anton Müller, who began working in the porcelain industry in Volkstedt in the late 19th century. In 1907, he officially established the company Porzellanmanufaktur Anton Müller.

Wartime and Destruction: Anton Müller died in 1937, and the business was succeeded by his son, Hermann.

The factory was destroyed by Allied bombing in 1945, and Hermann died during World War II.

Post-War and Relocation: The factory was not rebuilt in Germany after the war. Müller's descendants, his niece Johanna Saar and her husband Oskar, relocated the business and its valuable original master molds to County Limerick, Northern Ireland, in 1962.

Irish Dresden: In Ireland, they re-established the company under the name Irish Dresden. The "MV" trademark (often appearing as a crown over the letters "MV" or "VM") has persisted as the logo for Irish Dresden, with the name "Irish Dresden" often appearing below it. The business continues the family tradition of producing fine porcelain to this day.
