Royal Worcester Japanesque Teapot, D.1878.

19th century
Description

Royal Worcester porcelain Japanesque teapot, dated 1878. The teapot taking the form of a Japanese kettle, set upon three scroll feet, and having a gilt, overhead simulated basket weave handle.

The disc form body, decorated in Japanese Imari style, with spiral bands of flowering plants in iron red, on a gilt ground, alternating with bands of gilt scrollwork, on an underglaze cobalt blue ground. Having a gilt stub spout.

The cover similarly decorated, and surmounted by a gilt foliate finial.

Iron red printed factory marks, with date code for 1878, along with a registration mark, to both the underside, and the cover.

Width – 21.3 cm, 8 3/8”.

Height – 16.5 cm, 6 1/2”.

Condition – Excellent.
