Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A port lantern is a specialized maritime navigation light mounted on the port (left) side of a vessel. Historically illuminated by oil or candles, these lamps displayed a red aspect to signal a ships orientation and path to other vessels at night.

Authentic maritime lanterns are primarily constructed from copper and brass due to their resistance to saltwater corrosion. They typically feature heavy-gauge glass lenses, often cut into Fresnel concentric rings to magnify and project the light signal.

Authentic pieces feature heavy construction, riveted seams, serial or pattern numbers stamped into the casing, and brass makers plaques. Signs of historical age include minor surface denting, natural patination, and functional latches or handles designed for marine conditions.

A copper port lantern functions well as a focal accent on a sideboard, bookshelf, or desk. It can be displayed as a standalone decorative object or rewired with electrical fittings to serve as an accent lamp in coastal, industrial, or traditional schemes.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth. To preserve natural oxidisation and historical patina, avoid abrasive chemical polishes; if a polished finish is preferred, apply a specialised metal cleaner sparingly and seal with microcrystalline wax.
