Attractive Japanese Meiji (early 20thC) set of 3 lacquer vermillion sake cups and stand, depicting the Seven Lucky Gods. Stand 18/5cm x 18.5cm x 18cm high, cups diameter 14cm, 12.7cm and 11.7cm. Wooden box.
Good condition, one cup has small repair.
Japan''s Seven Lucky Gods (or Shichifukujin) are deities of fortune from Buddhist, Taoist, and Shinto roots, traditionally including Ebisu, Daikokuten, Benzaiten, Bishamonten, Fukurokuju, Jurojin and Hotei, often depicted on their treasure ship, the Takarabune, bringing blessings such as wealth, longevity, wisdom, and happiness, especially around the New Year.
