Sold by: Steve Sly Japanese Works of Art

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this late Meiji period (1868-1912) early Taisho period (1912-1926) pure silver flower vase by the highly regarded artist Sekiguchi Shinya, his art name Chitokusai. On this occasion Shinya has crafted a tall flattened shoulder pure silver vase , the decoration finely inlaid and with the use of mixed alloys in relief depicting a tranquil scene of a cockerel and chicks within a garden setting, the use of these mixed alloys including shakudo, shibuichi and unusually rose gold, really brings this charming scene to life. The underside of the vase bears the Jungin mark for pure silver alongside the Miyamoto seal of the famous retailer and commisioning company of the period. The side bears an inscription that reads Shinya Koku (carved by Shinya) as well as sealed Shinya. A most charming flower vase manufactured by a highly regarded and well recorded artist of the Meiji/ Taisho period.
