Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Opaline glass is a semi-translucent or opaque glass developed in France during the 19th century and widely utilised in lighting throughout the early 20th century. These lamps feature smooth glass bodies that mimic porcelain, often accented with brass or bronze hardware.

These lighting fixtures combine hand-blown or moulded opaline glass with cast brass or bronze components, such as bases, central collars, and bulb holders. The opaque white or pastel tone is created by adding additives like tin dioxide or bone ash to the glass batch.

Authentic period examples feature cast brass fittings with natural surface oxidisation, original bayonet or switch socket mountings, and hand-finished glass elements that display slight variations in thickness or subtle mould marks.

Position the lamp base on a dark wood console or bedside cabinet to create visual contrast between the white glass and background textures, paired with a tailored neutral silk or linen lampshade.

Clean the opaline glass base using a soft, damp cloth while avoiding harsh liquid cleansers. Metal components should be dusted gently with a dry microfibre cloth to preserve original surface finishes and lacquers.
