Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, metalworkers aligned with the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements sought to elevate utilitarian domestic objects into decorative art. Craftsmen favoured copper and wrought iron for their malleability and warm finish, decorating hearth containers with organic motifs and hand-beaten textures.

Traditional construction relies on hand-hammered sheet copper for the main body and lid, often decorated using repousse metalworking techniques. Hand-forged wrought iron frames, riveted structural bands, and shaped handles provide additional support and structural rigidity.

Authentic period pieces display hand-riveted joints, visible hammer marks from manual shaping, and forged ironwork featuring organic curves. Look for stylised botanical or whiplash relief designs rather than uniform machine-stamped patterns.

Place the container adjacent to a stove or fireplace to store kindling, logs, or fireside tools while introducing warm metallic tones. Alternatively, it can serve as a decorative planter or storage bin in living rooms, foyers, or hallways.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth to clean the surface without removing historical patination. To protect both the copper vessel and iron frame from moisture, apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax and avoid harsh abrasive metal polishes.
