Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, standard floor lamps became popular in residential interiors as domestic electrification expanded. Gooseneck designs and decorative cranberry glass shades were favoured for directing light while casting a warm tone into living spaces.

These lamps typically feature solid brass or silvered-plated metal columns with heavy circular bases for stability. Cranberry glass shades were created by adding gold salts or oxide to molten glass, which was then hand-blown and shaped with ruffled or frilled edges.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy weighted bases, traditional mechanical joints for height or angle adjustment, and minor air bubbles or pontil marks on hand-blown glass shades. Modern reproductions often use lighter metals and uniform machine-moulded glass.

Position the standard lamp alongside a reading armchair or near an empty corner to create a focused task light. The subtle ruby tone of the glass provides a striking contrast against contemporary neutral walls and timber furnishings.

Dust metal components regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid abrasive chemical cleaners that strip aged surface patinas. The glass shade should be carefully unmounted and hand-washed in warm soapy water using a soft cloth.
