Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A giltwood standard lamp from this period features a carved wooden stem finished with gold leaf or metallic gilding, often drawing design inspiration from Classical, Neoclassical, or Regency motifs such as fluting, acanthus leaves, and scroll tripod feet.

These lamps are constructed from carved hardwoods, often lime or pine, which are coated with gesso, sanded smooth, and finished using water-gilding or oil-gilding techniques with thin layers of gold leaf.

Authentic pieces show signs of gentle wear on the gilding, revealing the underlying red or yellow bole clay and gesso layers, along with period-appropriate wiring entry points and hand-carved details along the column.

Position the lamp alongside a reading armchair or near a sofa to introduce warm metallic tones and vertical height, pairing it with a tailored linen or silk lampshade to balance the detailed carvings.

Dust the surface softly using a clean, dry soft-bristled brush, avoiding liquid cleaners, water, or chemical polishes, as moisture can dissolve the underlying gesso and loosen the gilding.
