Description

The artist Paul-Gustave Doré (1832-1883) was a French printmaker who is considered to be one of the most prolific and successful book illustrators of the late 19th Century. He was also a painter, comics artist, caricaturist, and sculptor. He is best known for his prolific output of wood-engravings, especially those illustrating classic books such as Danté’s Inferno (1861), Don Quixote (1862), and the Bible (1866).

This particular engraving entitled Adam & Eve is from Doré’s illustrated edition of the Bible 1866. It was engraved by Adolphe François Pannemaker (1822- 1900) who was a graduate of Ecole Royale in Brussels. He worked in Paris for more than 30 years, mainly as a book illustrator & especially on reproductions of Gustave Doré's book illlustrations.

Original 19th Century Engraving Print in contemporary gold frame.

In excellent condition.

Dimensions: 33cm x 39cm x 1.5cm
