J G Graves Centre Seconds Chrono Pocket Watch, C1900

1900 - 1920
Description

J G Graves centre seconds chrono pocket watch, c1900.

The watch has an English stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed J G Graves, Sheffield, the original retailer of the watch who was listed as a jeweller and merchant. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 55mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. Unusually the case is 14ct gold filled, usually they are silver, and it is in lovely condition with just the odd small mark, nothing serious at all.

The thick glass lens is in good condition (some white natural light reflection showing in the photos).

The signed dial is in lovely condition. Pin-set hands. The chronograph feature is started and stopped by way of the sliding button to the side of the watch… when turned off, the whole movement stops, this is how the earlier chronographs functioned, ie, the mechanism to stop the large centre seconds hand is designed to physically stop the entire balance wheel from running, which in turn stops the whole movement.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
