Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian natural history prints are scientific illustrations produced during the nineteenth century to catalogue flora and fauna. Artists and naturalists created detailed engravings and lithographs that were published in academic volumes or collected for display.

These works were produced using steel or copperplate engraving techniques printed onto high-quality rag paper. Many examples featured hand-applied watercolour pigments to accurately capture the tones and textures of the natural subjects.

Authentic prints usually feature an indented plate mark around the image edge caused by press pressure. Additional signs include natural paper aging, fine line work characteristic of manual engraving, and evidence of hand-tinted colouring.

A set of framed prints works effectively arranged in a structured grid on a focal wall, such as above a sideboard or console table. Their organic themes pair well with natural timber furniture, muted neutral colour palettes, and minimalist framing.

Frame prints using acid-free mounting materials and UV-protective glass to prevent paper yellowing and ink fading. Display them away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and areas prone to elevated humidity.
