Description

A fine early 19th-century Worcester porcelain dessert plate from the Flight, Barr & Barr period.

The shaped plate has a bold gilt gadrooned rim and is decorated overall with a dense gilt seaweed pattern. To the centre is a finely painted circular landscape vignette with a named view, “Binstead Cottage, Isle of Wight”, depicting a thatched cottage in wooded surroundings with two small figures on a country lane.

The reverse bears the printed crowned mark “Royal Porcelain Works, Flight, Barr & Barr, Worcester & Coventry St. London” together with the hand-painted title, dating the plate to circa 1815–1820. Similar examples of this service are illustrated in Henry Sandon, Flight & Barr Worcester Porcelain, p.150.

• Condition: Excellent throughout. No damage or restoration; the gilding is crisp and bright with hardly any wear.
