A superb mid 17thc Charles 1 oak joyned coffer....it is carved on the lid with a central ''tree of life'' , roundels and initialled E L and dated 1700....the date has been put on slightly later as have the initials....the coffer is typical of the Caroline era example from around 1640....often these pieces were used as christening and marriage gifts years later.... often dated at the time of the event.....the front is also beautifully carved with floral and geometric designs...it is on the second set of hand made ''strap'' hinges, originally it would have had ''ring'' hinges....another early 17thc feature.....excellent colour and a joy to own..!
