Hingstons of Wilton has dated this piece to the Georgian era.

The chest features a fold-over top, a defining characteristic of the bachelor’s chest. When closed, it provides a compact footprint; when opened, the top doubles the working surface. This versatile flap was traditionally used for multiple purposes, including brushing clothes before wear, writing, or serving light meals, making it ideal for smaller rooms or apartments.

Below the top are graduated drawers, all fitted with original brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons, confirming the chest’s authenticity and period integrity. The chest stands on shaped bracket feet, adding to its elegant proportions and refined Georgian appearance.

Both functional and decorative, this bachelor’s chest is an excellent example of early 18th-century English craftsmanship and remains perfectly suited to modern living.
