Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Rat-tail tablespoons emerged during the late 17th century and remained popular through the Queen Anne and George I periods. The design features a pointed extension, or rat tail, running down the back of the bowl from the handle stem to provide structural reinforcement.

George I silver flatware was hand-hammered from sterling silver, typically hallmarked to verify purity. Spoons were wrought individually from silver ingot wire, with handles shaped into Hanoverian patterns featuring upturned terminals.

Authentic pieces feature clear assay hallmarks, including the town mark (such as the Edinburgh castle), the makers mark, and date letter codes. Physical details like a raised rat-tail join on the bowl and contemporary engraved initials on the upturned terminal further verify age.

Period silver flatware can be displayed in velvet-lined shadow boxes or arranged in glazed cabinet showcases. They also serve as functional table accents on formal dining setups alongside modern tableware.

Clean silver using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish formulated for antiques. Avoid dishwashers, harsh chemicals, and prolonged exposure to sulfur-containing foods, storing pieces in acid-free tissue or felt wraps.
