Antique English Art Deco Epstein Electric Walnut Cocktail & Drinks Cabinet / Sideboard (circa 1930)
£3,950 $5,412 €4,541
This is a fine quality English Art Deco cocktail cabinet, constructed in figured walnut, circa 1930, attributed to Harry & Lou Epstein Ltd., in excellent condition. This Art Deco furniture is decorated in stunning book-marked figured walnut timbers and constructed in the shape of a “skyscraper”, with a taller central section, flanked by two lower side sections – classic Art Deco design. This Art Deco cocktail cabinet features a moulded breakfront centre, comprising two upper doors, which opens to reveal a mirrored interior. The left-hand door is furnished with a bottle opener and cork-screw. The right-hand door contains six cocktail sticks and the juicer bowl, which is secured in place on the right-hand wall. Both doors feature a small shelf, ideal for storing small bottles or glasses.
The roof section is hinged and opens to activate the interior light, which illuminates the central well. The roof is secured by its original locking stay on the left-hand side. The interior reta...ins the original glass panels. The original internal light fitting has been re-wired, tested and a new UK plug fitted, to ensure the electrics are in good working condition.
The drawer below is constructed with mahogany linings and fine hand-dovetail joints. Further below, are two larger doors, which open to reveal a large storage area, containing a small removable shelf. The central section is also flanked by two large doors, containing three removable shelves. The doors and drawer are decorated with the original ruby colour Bakelite handles. The doors also retain their original metal sliding door bolts, with the original working brass lever locks (with key). The Art Deco drinks cabinet stands on its original rectangular shaped block moulded plinth and retains the original backboards.
Condition Report:
The original internal light fitting has been re-wired, tested and a new UK plug fitted, to ensure it is in excellent working condition. The mirrored glass in the interior is original, therefore shows signs of foxing (we can replace the mirrored glass with new glass if you prefer). The walnut exterior has been cleaned and French polished by hand in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are of an excellent finish. The figured walnut timbers are original and in excellent overall condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawer interiors have also been cleaned. The drawer is in good working order and is constructed with mahogany linings and dovetail construction. The doors and drawer are decorated with its original ruby colour Bakelite handles. The doors also retain their original metal sliding door bolts and the original brass lever locks (with key). This Art Deco cocktail cabinet is solid in joint and ready to be used.
