Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French Gueridon is a small, often circular accent table that originated in seventeenth-century France. Traditionally used to hold candlesticks or small decorative items, these tables evolved during the Louis XV and Louis XVI periods to showcase elaborate marquetry, exotic wood veneers, and cast bronze mounts.

These tables typically feature a solid hardwood framework overlaid with veneers of exotic woods such as kingwood, rosewood, tulipwood, or mahogany. The decorative patterns are created using contrasting timber inlays, accompanied by cast and chased gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts for structural protection and ornament.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut timber veneers, irregular dovetail joints on drawers, and heavy, hand-chased gilt-bronze mounts fixed with original iron screws. Inspecting the underside reveals hand-sawn timber marks and age-appropriate shrinkage or oxidation rather than modern uniform machine cuts.

A highly detailed French side table acts as a focal point when placed alongside clean-lined, modern upholstery. Position it beside a sleek sofa or in a quiet reading corner to allow the metallic mounts and wood grains to contrast with neutral, contemporary textures.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply high-grade beeswax sparingly along the grain once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting, and clean the gilt-bronze mounts gently without harsh chemical polish.
