A splendid and highly decorative early 19th century bureau bookcase, (English circa 1830).
An excellent find, this beautiful piece of furniture is smothered in decorative chinoiserie, hand painted gold oriental scenes and florals. A true work of art, and obviously a great amount of time has gone into this decorative art. Unusual raised aspects to the paintwork, with only minor wear in places in keeping with age.
The broken top pediment has a swan neck shape above a moulded cornice, with 2 raised panel pin doors which enclose 2 height adjustable shelves inside.
This top section sits on the base fitted with a cylinder bureau above 2 cupboard doors.
The roll top opens to reveal a lacquered interior, with pigeon hole storage and 3 small drawers with gold edging above 2 leathered lift up storage compartments either side of the central leathered height adjustable writing surface.
The lower cabinet has 1 height adjustable shelf inside.
Plinth base.
