Description

A substantial twin-handled serving dish by Chamberlain’s Worcester, produced in the early 19th century from early Worcester hybrid-paste porcelain. The deep oval form is decorated with a rich burgundy enamel ground to the rim, enriched with floral panels and extensive gilding.

The centre is painted with a figural scene of people in a boat, set within a tranquil landscape. The rim is strongly moulded and scalloped, heavily gilded, and fitted with openwork gilt scroll handles. The exceptional size distinguishes this piece from standard Worcester tableware and points to its intended role as a presentation or display dish.

Large-format Chamberlain’s Worcester dishes with figural decoration are increasingly scarce and remain highly regarded by collectors of English porcelain.
