We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late Victorian dining chairs, produced towards the end of the nineteenth century, often feature carved wooden frames, button-backed upholstery, and turned legs with castors. This period emphasised comfort and decorative craftsmanship within formal dining spaces.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood for structural durability. Upholstery frequently featured natural horsehair padding covered in velvet, damask, or leather, secured with brass tacks.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hand-carved woodwork, stamped maker marks on the underside of the frame, brass castors on the front legs, and evidence of traditional upholstery techniques such as hand-tied springs and webbing.

Pairing structured Victorian chairs with a contemporary minimalist dining table creates an eclectic, balanced aesthetic. Retaining or updating textured upholstery in bold tones allows traditional wooden frames to complement modern colour schemes.

Keep timber frames away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, cleaning wood with specialised beeswax polish. Gently vacuum velvet upholstery using a soft brush attachment to remove dust without crushing the pile.
