19th Century French Louis XV Style Marquetry Escritoire with Original Marble Top
 
A fine quality late 19th century French escritoire in the Louis XV style, circa 1880.
 
The piece retains its original Bre`che d’Alep marble top, richly coloured and shaped, with a small old repair to the back edge. The cabinet is finely veneered in kingwood and tulipwood with floral marquetry to the fall front and chevron inlay throughout.
 
The upper section comprises a single drawer and a fall front opening to a leather writing surface, fitted interior with shelf and four small drawers. Three further drawers to the lower body.
 
The whole with original gilt-bronze mounts and escutcheons. Oak-lined and well constructed, with a solid oak back.
 
In good polished condition. The fall front with minor distortion but closes securely and forms an even writing surface. Two keys present.
