Mexican Silver and Amethyst Brooch - Beto

1940 - 1960
Description

A mid century silver and Amethyst brooch by Beto. Beto was active from the 1930’s being part of the golden age of Taxo silversmithing. It would appear that the peak period for Beto was the 1950’s. This is certainly and interesting design with cabochon amethysts, photographed in two positions as it works both ways. The reverse has the Mexican marks and the eagle for the sign of silver.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mexican modernist silver jewellery developed predominantly in Taxco during the mid-20th century, characterised by architectural metalwork, sterling silver construction, and the inclusion of native gemstones.

These pieces are crafted using sterling silver, frequently stamped with purity marks such as 925, alongside natural polished amethyst cabochons.

Authentic items feature maker stamps, silver assay marks, TAXCO location indicators, and hand-finished bezel settings around the stones.

A modernist silver pin can be worn on coat lapels, collared shirts, or heavy knitwear, and can also be displayed in shadow boxes as art objects.

Clean silver using a soft microfibre cloth, avoid dipping solutions that can damage natural gemstones, and store in a dry, soft-lined jewellery box.
